batik

Batik is a type of resist printing process in which wax is applied to the fabric in specific areas. When the wax hardens, the fabric is submerged in dye. The wax prevents the dye from reaching the fibers. The fabric is then boiled to remove the wax. This fabric-dyeing method makes cotton look crackled. Batik is characterized by a unique, nearly pattern-less appearance.

Bird’s eye

Birdseye is a cotton fabric made on a dobby loom, which results in a small, repetitive woven pattern that resembles diamonds, or more commonly thought, the eye of a bird. This fabric was originally made with cotton or linen and is versatile enough for a variety of different garments, though it is typically used in men’s suits.

Herringbone

Named for its resemblance to the backbone of a herring fish, herringbone is a broken twill weave composed of vertical sections of diagonal lines that are alternately righthand and lefthand in direction, creating a fishbone pattern.

Ottoman

Originally developed in Turkey, ottoman is a heavy fabric with flat crosswise ribs. Some ottomans have small ribs and others have ribs which alternate in size from wide and narrow.

Pinstripe

Pinstripe is known for crisp, thin stripes in evenly spaced lines, typically gray or white, that are woven into fabric, giving suiting a classic elegance.

Heather

Heather refers to a soft, muted color created by blending different colored fibers into one yarn. Your favorite comfy gray cotton tee that seems to have specks of white in it is the perfect example of “heather gray.” Heather is typically used in clothing like t-shirts and sweaters, and in home furnishings.
